Anita C. Kumar, MD, earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. At Adelphi University, Dr. Kumar excelled academically, becoming a recipient of the Trustees Scholarship, a member of the Dean’s List, and an active member of two science honor societies, Beta Beta Beta and Alpha Epsilon Delta. Following her undergraduate studies, she studied overseas and attended the University of Debrecen Medical School in Hungary where she earned her Doctor of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Kumar completed a three-year internship and residency in internal medicine at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in Bronx, New York. She is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and is licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine. Dr. Kumar joins TPMG Beach Primary Care in Virginia Beach.
From a young age, Dr. Kumar was drawn to the medical field. Inspired by her aunt who was a well-respected and valued obstetrician-gynecologist in India, Dr. Kumar hoped to have the same impact one day. After performing broad-based training in primary care and addressing the medical needs of diverse communities, she has become known for her kind bedside manner and understanding of her patients’ health concerns.
With nearly 20 years in the practice, Dr. Kumar has extensive experience caring for patients in various clinical settings, promoting health and wellness through community outreach, and expanding practices in the Hampton Roads area. At TPMG Beach Primary Care, she provides patient care to adults 18 years of age and older. She specializes in internal medicine, treating a variety of conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypothyroidism, among other conditions. Dr. Kumar's approach to medicine emphasizes creating a patient-centered experience. She is a primary care physician in Virginia Beach, dedicated to establishing a strong relationship and partnership with each patient, helping them navigate health changes.
Growing up in New York, also known as “the big city,” Dr. Kumar found Virginia Beach to be a welcoming city with plenty of opportunities. Practicing in Virginia since 2007, she truly feels fulfilled in her career and values living in a city where she can relax and unwind in her downtime. Outside of work, Dr. Kumar enjoys bike riding, doing Pilates, watching English Premier League soccer, and spending time with her husband and family. She warmly welcomes new patients to contact the office to reserve an appointment with her.
