David J. Zelinskas, DO, MPH, is a board certified family medicine physician in Chesapeake, VA. Dr. Zelinskas earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Zelinskas was commissioned in the U.S. Navy where he completed his family medicine residency training at U.S. Naval Hospital Bremerton in Washington. Upon completion of his residency training, he was stationed onboard the USS George H.W. Bush as the staff family physician. Following a successful tour and deployment to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, Dr. Zelinskas transferred to Branch Health Clinic Norfolk, where he served as the Department Head of Primary Care. After a successful active duty career, Dr. Zelinskas joined TPMG Indian River Family Practice and has continued his service as an active member in the Navy Reserves.

Dr. Zelinskas has a passion for teaching and currently serves as a family medicine preceptor for Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Previously, he was a preceptor for the Transitional Intern Program at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and the EVMS Physician Assistant Program. He also served as the Program Director and was a physician supervisor for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) program.

As a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Dr. Zelinskas believes the body has a unique inherent ability to heal itself. He further believes each element of one’s health plays a vital role and work in conjunction with each other to continue to improve the function of the body. In addition to conventional therapies and management prescribed by a family physician, Dr. Zelinskas utilizes osteopathic principles and techniques such as Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM).

As a result of his Navy training and career, Dr. Zelinskas has the unique ability to offer specialized care to every member of the family including pediatrics and newborn care, women’s health, and contraceptive management procedures. By providing a full range of family medicine services, Dr. Zelinskas hopes to make it easier for all members of busy families to receive their care in a single location.

Outside the office, Dr. Zelinskas is an avid runner and triathlete, and enjoys numerous outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing. He is married to Dr. Sara Zelinskas, also a physician at TPMG – Foot and Ankle, and together they have two children. Dr. Zelinskas and his family are active members of their local church.
