Otolaryngologist Specializing in Ear, Nose & Throat Disorders
Eric J. Simko, MD, FACS, FAAOA is a board certified otolaryngologist (ENT) practicing Head and Neck Surgery, ENT, and Allergy in Newport News, VA. His areas of special interest include thyroid/parathyroid surgery, nasal and sinus problems to include allergy, the treatment of hearing loss, and pediatric ear, nose, and throat disorders such as recurrent ear infections and sleep-disordered breathing.
Dr. Simko grew up in the greater Pittsburgh area and remains a lifelong fan of the “City of Champions.” When he returns home, he enjoys touring through Pittsburgh’s diverse neighborhoods and exceptional restaurants and like most people from the area, never misses a chance to grab a Primanti Brothers sandwich and only uses Heinz ketchup.
An honors graduate from the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Simko is forever a diehard Fighting Irish fan. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD, graduating in the top 10% of his class and was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Dr. Simko completed his internship in General Surgery and residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
Following his residency, Dr. Simko served this great nation for more than two decades as an otolaryngologist in the U.S. Air Force. During his military career, he served on the teaching faculty at several of the busiest and finest military medical centers of the Army, Navy and Air Force in Portsmouth, VA and San Antonio, TX.
His military career was highlighted by serving as Residency Program Director for the Navy’s Otolaryngology Residency Program at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth from 1999-2005. During his military career, Dr. Simko received numerous service related awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from the military in 2006 at the rank of Colonel and transitioned to private practice in Newport News, VA.
Dr. Simko was the first Otolaryngologist to join TPMG and has been with the group since 2010. He has been recognized as a “Top Doc” by his peers in the medical community in each consecutive year from 2011-2018. He currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in Otolaryngology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and enjoys teaching residents and medical students.
Dr. Simko is passionate about medicine and feels fortunate to have the opportunity to use his gifts to care for his patients. His approach to medicine is modeled after William Mayo, MD, co-founder of the Mayo Clinic, who stated, “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.”
Dr. Simko is an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Newport News and outside of the office he enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching Fighting Irish football, reading, music and traveling.
