BIOGRAPHY

Williamsburg, VA Family Medicine Physician

Jennifer L. McLean, MD, FAAFP, is a board certified family medicine physician providing complete care to patients in the Williamsburg and surrounding areas from newborns to geriatrics.

After receiving her undergraduate degree from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, Dr. McLean began working as a health counselor in a medical clinic providing comprehensive women’s care. It was through this experience that she developed a passion for caring for others and grew to appreciate the positive impact one could have on their community through medicine.

Following her experience at the women’s clinic, Dr. McLean knew she wanted to pursue a career in medicine and enrolled in George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C., earning her medical degree in 2002.  She completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine through the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, serving as Chief Resident in her final year.

In her clinical practice, Dr. McLean is passionate about providing comprehensive women’s care, as well as preventative care for all ages.  Her special interests include providing each patient with a plan for health maintenance, vaccinations, and counseling on leading a healthy life through diet and exercise.  She believes a healthy lifestyle is an important component to preventing and treating chronic illness

Dr. McLean considers a patient’s family medical history to be an integral component to treatment and ongoing care. By having a complete picture of her patients’ health, including risk factors, she can help her patients manage and reduce their risk of developing chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

In addition to her work at TPMG Colonial Family Medicine, Dr. McLean served as Co-medical Director for over six years at a skilled nursing facility in Newport News along with fellow TPMG physician, Jacob Almeida, DO, CMD providing medical direction and guidance to care for the residents. Dr. McLean is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. McLean enjoys serving her community and is proud to call Williamsburg her home.  Outside of the office she can often be found on the sidelines of her childrens’ numerous sporting activities, with a medical bag on hand to bandage scrapes and care for injuries. She is grateful to have chosen such a wonderful place to raise her family and looks forward to providing care for her community for many years to come.
