Dr. Katharine Van Slyke completed her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Richmond in Virginia and earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in Pennsylvania. She completed an internship and began her residency in Internal Medicine at PCOM, where she served as Chief Intern and was honored as Intern of the Year. Dr. Van Slyke completed her residency training at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia and has been practicing in the Tidewater area ever since.
A board certified internal medicine physician, Dr. Van Slyke specializes in the care of patients 18 years of age and older, and has a special medical interest in the care of adults over the age of 55. Dr. Van Slyke believes in a holistic approach to medicine and likes to incorporate preventive care and lifestyle medicine into every visit. She treats both acute and chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol issues, thyroid problems, and digestive issues. She also offers pre-operative clearance exams, annual physicals and women’s health exams.
Dr. Van Slyke is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and American College of Osteopathic Internists. She has also been named a Coastal Virginia Magazine “Top Doc” in Internal Medicine, as voted for by her peers in the Hampton Roads area.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Van Slyke is a dedicated Pittsburgh Steeler fan and an avid traveler--a passion developed during her undergraduate semester in London traveling throughout Europe in her spare time and on weekends.
Dr. Van Slyke is married to a United States Naval Officer, also a physician, and has two children. Outside of the office, Dr. Van Slyke is active in her church and enjoys going to the beach, reading novels, hiking, cooking healthy food, and spending time on the sidelines of her children’s sporting events.
