Nicole Cook, PA-C, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology as well as a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from James Madison University in Harrisonburg. Nicole is board certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a child, Nicole was driven to pursue a career in medicine to help others dealing with chronic illness. Initially drawn to the field of endocrinology, Nicole soon found the diversity of family practice to be fulfilling and rewarding as it encompasses treatment of acute conditions and chronic diseases.
Nicole uses a holistic approach to treatment and believes good health is achievable through simple lifestyle changes. When treating patients, she prefers to avoid medications and focuses on discussion of alternate methods of treatment including improved physical activity, proper nutrition, increased emotional health, and sleep quality. Nicole is dedicated to building long-term relationships and encourages her patients to take an active role in the development of their treatment plans.
Her special interests include treating patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, and preventative medicine. As a physician assistant, Nicole enjoys the opportunity to educate her patients by providing monthly diabetes group classes.
She is an active member of the Institute of Functional Medicine and currently serves as a preceptor at James Madison University, Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), and Shenandoah University.
Prior to working as a physician assistant, Nicole conducted research at the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters (CHKD) with the gastrointestinal department and assisted in the research of autonomic neuropathy and diabetes at the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Diabetes Institute.
Outside of the office, Nicole loves to spend time in the kitchen cooking and baking. She is married with two children and enjoys taking trips to the mountains or the beach whenever she has the opportunity. She and her family are actively involved in their local church. She has been practicing alongside Dr. Sinclair McCracken of TPMG Thimble Shoals Family Medicine, formerly named Sinclair Booker McCracken, PC, Family Practice, for over ten years. She joined TPMG in 2019.
