Qingyan Zhu, MD, is a board certified neurologist with nearly 20 years of experience. She earned her medical degree at Capital University of Medical Sciences in Beijing, China. Following medical school, she went on to earn her Master of Medicine from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China. She also received a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, VA.
Dr. Zhu has expertise in the treatment and care of numerous neurological disorders including migraines and other types of headaches, seizures, epilepsies, stroke, peripheral neuropathy, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), dementia, sleep disorders, cervical and lumbar radiculopathies among other neurological disorders. She provides several in-office services and testing, including Electroencephalogram (EEG) for patients suffering from epilepsy or suspected seizures, Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) for diagnosis of all types of neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathies, Botox injections for chronic migraines, trigger point injections for myofascial pain, acupuncture for all types of pain, anxiety, depression, and headaches. Her special interests include multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and peripheral neuropathy.
Paramount to her philosophy of care, Dr. Zhu is committed to developing strong patient relationships, equipping patients with the education and resources needed for successful outcomes. She finds this specialty to be greatly rewarding as it requires great discipline, patience, and attention to detail. General neurology is very much like solving a puzzle, narrowing down a patient’s diagnosis requires effective communication between both the provider and patient.
Dr. Zhu is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), Chinese American Neurology Association (CANA), and serves as a board member of the Eastern Virginia Chinese American Medical Association (EVCAMA).
In her free time, she enjoys playing badminton, traveling, and home projects. She takes great pride in her Chinese ancestry and is actively involved in a dance team and two choirs that perform during the Chinese New Year. Dr. Zhu practices at TPMG Neurology - Carrollton and welcomes loyal and new patients to reserve an appointment at her new office.
