Richard A. Parisi, MD is a fellowship-trained, board certified physician with over 30 years of experience in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Sleep Medicine. As a sleep medicine specialist, Dr. Parisi provides treatment and care for a variety of sleep disorders and conditions.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel University College of Medicine. After returning to his home state of New Jersey, he completed an internal medicine residency and a pulmonary/critical care medicine fellowship at the Rutgers/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Parisi is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Sleep Medicine.
Fascinated by the complex relationship between sleep and health, Dr. Parisi enjoys treating patients with a variety of sleep disorders and conditions. Dr. Parisi has many years of experience in the field of sleep medicine, with a special interest in sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and other sleep-related disorders. He always strives to be a good listener while developing treatment plans in partnership with his patients.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), a unique honor that recognizes special competency in sleep medicine and significant contributions to the field. As Founder and President of the Virginia Academy of Sleep Medicine, Dr. Parisi has conducted National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research into the control of breathing during sleep and has worked extensively with leaders in sleep medicine to develop clinical practices and promote research. Dr. Parisi has spent much of his career as a Clinical Professor at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond.
Dr. Parisi and his family lived in the Richmond area for almost 20 years before moving to Williamsburg. He and his wife have six children, two dogs and a few fish. He enjoys the history, nature and family-friendly environment of Hampton Roads, and is active in his children’s sports activities. TPMG welcomed Dr. Parisi to TPMG Lung and Sleep Specialists in Williamsburg in May of 2019.
