Sara E. Zelinskas, DPM, ABFAS, earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Iowa State University and her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Des Moines University in Iowa. She completed residency training in foot and ankle surgery at the Franciscan Foot and Ankle Institute in Federal Way, Washington, and received further specialized training in sports medicine and Dermatopathology through programs at Bako Pathology in Alpharetta, Georgia.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Zelinskas focuses on the needs of each individual patient to help them achieve their individual training goals, whether as a weekend warrior or budding marathon runner. Her goal is to keep her patients active by providing guidance on appropriate training and injury prevention, and through surgical intervention, when necessary.
Dr. Zelinskas provides foot and ankle care and surgery to pediatric and adult patients and general podiatric care and treatment for running related injuries such as turf toe, heel pain, and Achilles Tendonitis. She takes a conservative approach to treatment, utilizing therapies such as stem cell injections when possible; however, in cases where surgery is the appropriate course of treatment, Dr. Zelinskas is an experienced foot and ankle surgeon. She performs surgical procedures to include foot and ankle reconstruction and total ankle joint replacement.
In 2012, recognizing an opportunity to pursue both an area of clinical interest and provide the most complete care for her patients, Dr. Zelinskas received additional training in Bako Dermatopathology, a subspecialty disciple of dermatology focused specifically on skin disorders of the foot and ankle resulting from skin diseases, cancer, athletes foot, and eczema.
Eager to stay current with the latest foot and ankle treatment therapies and techniques, Dr. Zelinskas hones her surgical skills by seeking out and gaining certifications in cutting edge techniques, followed up with time spent in surgical labs perfecting her skills.
Dr. Zelinskas is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the International Foot and Ankle Foundation, where she lectured on barefoot running at their annual meeting in 2016.
Dr. Zelinskas has practiced in Virginia since 2013 and joined TPMG in 2016, opening her practice, TPMG Foot and Ankle in Virginia Beach. She performs surgeries at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital and Sentara Princess Anne Ambulatory Surgery Center.
