Sinclair Booker McCracken, MD, IFMP, is a board certified family medicine physician and certified functional medicine practitioner. She received her Functional Medicine certification through both the Functional Medicine University and The Institute for Functional Medicine. She is a certified NES Health Practitioner in NES Bioenergetic Wellness.
Dr. McCracken received her Bachelor of Science in Biology/Chemistry at Lynchburg College. Following college, she served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, where she learned firsthand about nutrition and organic farming. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and completed her Family Practice Residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, serving as Chief Resident during her third year.
She discovered the field of Functional Medicine when searching for new ways to empower patients in their life journey. She believes in treating the whole patient, a core value of Functional Medicine. When diagnosing each patient, she relies on a detailed understanding of the patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors; leveraging that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes. Dr. McCracken enjoys utilizing a patient-centered approach and finds joy in this aspect of Functional Medicine, integrating all parts of the patient’s story to find balance, health, and wellness.
For nearly 20 years, Dr. McCracken has owned and operated an independent private practice. This has given her great insight into innovative and distinct approaches to patient care while maintaining best practices and a scientific, evidence-based approach. Functional Medicine addresses the root cause, rather than symptoms, to identify the complexity of the disease and targets specific characteristic signs and symptoms of a disease in each individual.
Dr. McCracken is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Institute for Functional Medicine, and Functional Medicine University. She has served as a Community Faculty member for Eastern Virginia Medical School and James Madison University, as well as on the Board for the Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center, the Poquoson Education Foundation, and the Parents Council at the University of Lynchburg.
She has experience working with EFT/Tapping, Family Constellation Work, Mindfulness and Neurofeedback, HeartMath, and Heart Rate Variability. She completed training in Accunect Energy Medicine and implemented NES Bioenergetic Wellness System into her Functional Medicine.
Dr. McCracken enjoys providing care to generations of the same family. As a native of the area, she particularly loves to hear patients’ stories rich in local history.
McCracken enjoys kayaking, playing basketball, art, and literature. She is married with two children and enjoys traveling whenever she gets the opportunity. Dr. McCracken is a strong advocate of philanthropic outreach and has volunteered with Operation Smile, NEST Homeless Shelter, and Coats for Kids. She has served on various medical mission trips, including Panama and Ecuador.
Dr. McCracken joined TPMG in 2019, renaming her practice to TPMG Thimble Shoals Family Medicine.
