Sudip Ghimire, MD, attended medical school in Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, Nepal where he also earned a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He completed his residency program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Ghimire continued his training with a nephrology fellowship from Darthmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. This program is designed to provide advanced training in various aspects of nephrology and kidney care. Dr. Ghimire is a fellowship trained nephrologist in Newport News, VA with nearly 20 years of experience in the field. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and joined TPMG Nephrology in Newport News in 2020.
Curiosity about human physiology and witnessing firsthand the burden of disease in society, drew him to pursue a career in medicine. As a health care provider, he is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care treating each patient as if they were family. With this in mind, he strives to eliminate symptoms and restore patients back to their optimum health.
Dr. Ghimire provides kidney disease care for adults from 18 years of age and older. He treats a broad range of conditions related to the kidneys such as acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, electrolyte disorder, metabolic management of kidney stones, peritonea dialysis, hemodialysis, and dialysis-related care. His medical interests include electrolyte disorder, bone mineral disease, and hypertension.
He is passionate about teaching and enjoys the opportunity to share knowledge with future generations of medical students. He recently served as an instructor of nephrology at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in New Hampshire and also spent six years as an inpatient teacher for family medicine residents at Lawrence General Hospital.
Dr. Ghimire is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Nephrology, and National Kidney Foundation. In addition to caring for his patients, he has presented many poster presentations at national meetings including the National Conference of American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation. He has also been published in several journals including the American Journal of Kidney Disease for his abstract, “Transient Nephrogenic DI after Discontinuation of Vasopressin” and his case study, “Metabolic Alkalosis and Cystic Fibrosis” featured in the American College of Physicians (ACP) Journals.
Outside of the office, he enjoys traveling with his family, playing soccer, and cooking. TPMG welcomed Dr. Ghimire to TPMG Nephrology in Newport News in 2020 and welcomes new patients to his practice.
