TPMG Imaging and Breast Centers in Newport News, Williamsburg, and Hampton will offer screening mammogram appointments on four Saturdays throughout 2020. Patients will be seen from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates: March 14, June 6, October 17, and December 5.
Fellowship trained radiologists offer TPMG Imaging services in private, discrete, mammography suites. Screening mammograms are fully covered by all insurance carriers one time per year for patients starting at age 40.
“With already busy schedules, it can be hard to fit in a mammogram screening. Something as important as your health should be more accessible. We hope to achieve that with our four Saturday screening dates this year,” said Janae Johnson, MD, board certified and fellowship trained breast imaging radiologist.
According to BreastCancer.org, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. “Currently, there is no way to prevent breast cancer, so we strive to find it early when it is most treatable. Screening mammograms are the gold standard, the best first tool in the fight against breast cancer.”
Johnson recommends all women over the age of 40 receive a yearly screening mammogram. For patients with additional risk factors or a family history of breast cancer, it is recommended to begin screenings at an earlier age.
TPMG Imaging and Breast Centers are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and offer 2D and 3D mammography imaging to achieve the best quality images for each patient. The facility has been awarded the title of ACR Breast Center of Excellence, which is a recognition considered to be the highest designation offered for centers that achieve excellence in imaging quality and safety. Additionally, at TPMG, all images are reviewed by a fellowship trained, board certified radiologists.
