Newport News, VA, October 17, 2018 – TPMG Nutrition Services is proud to announce their Diabetes Prevention Program has received full recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This recognition signifies the quality of the TPMG program and designates that all standards have been met for full CDC recognition.
In the United States, over 30 million people have diabetes and more than 84 million people over the age of 18 have pre-diabetes, according to the CDC. Diabetes presents not only a significant impact to a persons’ lifestyle and health, but a financial hardship and burden to the individual and healthcare system.
Type 2 Diabetes is preventable and through programs like the TPMG Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)—in partnership with the CDC National DPP—participants can receive support and education to lower their risk of developing the disease.
Led by a trained and certified lifestyle coach, the TPMG Nutrition Services Diabetes Prevention Program focuses on improving food choices, increasing activity and controlling portions to reduce participants’ body weight and risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes with proven results.
“We couldn’t be happier to have our program fully recognized by the CDC and to continue to offer this program to the Hampton Roads community. We have had great success with our past cohorts and look forward to welcoming our next group of participants this Fall,” said Certified Lifestyle Coach and TPMG DPP facilitator, Cathy Bray, BSN, RN, CDE.
The TPMG Nutrition Services Diabetes Prevention Program will offer open enrollment for their next year-long program starting in October. The program will be held in Newport News at the Tidewater Medical Center located on 860 Omni Boulevard.
